Issues and Position Statements

The David Suzuki Foundation has been working since 1990 to find ways for people and societies to exist in balance with the natural world. As humans, we are embedded in and entirely dependent on nature. But we have upset the balance, and Canada and the world are facing numerous environmental crises as we move forward in the 21st century. We believe there are solutions.

In some cases, the solutions are known, but lack of political will prevents them from being implemented. In some, debate and research have yet to lead to consensus about what needs to be done. And in many cases, people and organizations – from citizens to governments and businesses to environmental organizations – have acted to put the solutions to work.

At the David Suzuki Foundation, we work to complement the efforts of the many organizations, First Nations, scientists, academics, and citizens who are doing their part for environmental protection. Our focus is on issues that are based in science, primarily in the areas of oceans and freshwater conservation, terrestrial and species conservation, climate change and clean energy, sustainability, human health, and the Nature Challenge.
