Parks in Peril

National Parks Region by Region

Ontario Parks:

Many of the important changes to the National Parks in Ontario relate to changes in water levels and water temperatures. Lake water levels may drop as much as 1.3 metres in this region by 2050. Drying marshlands have serious implications for plant diversity and the hundreds of species that rely on this habitat, such as migrating birds. Warming surface waters increase risk to fish stocks. Also, climate change will alter the migratory patterns of birds and butterflies.

Parks in this region include:
  • Bruce Peninsula National Park (Ontario)

  • Georgian Bay Islands National Park (Ontario)

  • Point Pelee National Park (Ontario)

  • Pukaskwa National Park (Ontario)

  • St Lawrence Islands National Park (Ontario)
