Parks in Peril

National Parks Region by Region

Pacific Parks:

The projected 3.5 degree C increase in sea surface temperatures in the Northeast Pacific over the next 50 years will cause the most important ecological impact on the marine, coastal and riverine ecosystems of this region's national parks. For example, warmer waters will affect the spawning and migration of salmon, which in turn will disrupt the feeding habitats of bears and bald eagles. Winter food supply for Dall's sheep and mountain goats will be impacted by increased snow and ice layers.

Parks in this region include:
  • Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve (British Columbia)

  • Kluane National Park Reserve (Yukon Territory)

  • Pacific Rim National Park Reserve (British Columbia)
