Parks in Peril

National Parks Region by Region

Quebec Parks:

Changes in sea level accompanied by intense storms will increase erosion and damage the fragile vegetation of nearshore cliffs, salt marshes and moorlands of Mingan and Forillon National Parks. Cooling of the Labrador current due to melting of the Greenland ice sheet threatens the marine food supply of seabirds and marine mammals such as whales.

The combination of rising temperatures and acid rain in La Mauricie National Park would lead to the loss of many fish species. Seventy plants within the park are considered rare and of special interest. The increased frequency of droughts will place these and other species like conifers under stress.

Parks in this region include:
  • Forillon National Park (Quebec)

  • Mingan Archipelago National Park (Quebec)

  • La Mauricie National Park (Quebec)
