Conservation planning

The goal of our conservation planning program is to protect the world’s ecosystems by creating conservation plans that enable local stakeholders to protect their human communities and the ecosystems and biodiversity upon which they depend.

Our goals are based on protecting the living organisms on the planet (biosphere) and Earth’s many cultures and people (ethnosphere). Both the biosphere and ethnosphere are made up of interacting communities of organisms and the environments in which they live, called ecosystems. That’s why protecting ecosystems is necessary to support sustainable communities and economies.

Conservation planning is just one aspect of the David Suzuki Foundation's work. Our report, Sustainability Within a Generation, outlines our targets and timelines for making Canada a world leader in environmental conservation by the year 2030. Since many environmental problems require international solutions, promoting global sustainability by assisting local communities in conservation planning is part of our mission.
