Consider this: for the same amount of investment, 60% more jobs can be created in the clean-energy sector than in the fossil-fuel sector. In a sustainable future, we wouldn’t worry about summer smog alerts or where our drinking water comes from. Endangered wildlife and their habitat would recover and thrive. We can all play a part in making this future a reality. You are already doing your part by taking the Nature Challenge! Some of Canada’s biggest corporations are beginning to embrace sustainability, not just to appease shareholders and customers, but to save money and create new products and markets. If governments provided more incentives, many Canadian businesses would work to develop products and practices that conserve nature. There’s good reason to be optimistic about the potential of a clean energy future. For instance, did you know that by raising energy efficiency standards, many of today’s refrigerators use just one-quarter of the energy of fridges made 20 years ago? Sustainability within a generation is an opportunity for us to get in shape and create a future we’ll be proud to hand over to the next generation. Let’s get to work!
