Fish tale

When mercury is released into the atmosphere, it bioaccumulates - a fancy word to say that it builds up inside us. But humans aren't the only victims. Fish are especially vulnerable to mercury contamination.

It's best to stay away from fish like rockfish (often sold as snapper) that live a long time, since they have had more time to accumulate toxins. Other fishes to look out for are predatory fish, such as swordfish, shark, and tuna.

Mercury is just one of the many risks threatening the world’s oceans. And since World Ocean Day is June 8th, now's a good time to let our political leaders know that they need to protect our marine ecosystems from pollution like mercury. Send a letter now!
