How will this affect you?

Although international conferences like COP 11 are intimidating, the overall messages are simple. We have to do something about climate change. And we have to start right now.

While other nations are reducing emissions, Canada’s emissions are on the rise. That’s what makes COP so important to Canadians. It’s a chance to learn from others about the opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Iceland is the world’s best example of a country curbing greenhouse gases. Over the next 30 years, it plans to replace polluting fossil fuels like oil and diesel with renewable energy. This could reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 50%. Germany, the EU’s largest emitter, has already reduced greenhouse gas emissions since 1990 by 19%.

One thing is clear. Canada needs to start conserving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We can accomplish this goal in many ways. We can produce cars that pollute less, and develop cleaner and more efficient technologies. We can build homes and offices that use less energy. Through innovation, Canada can boost its economy to become a global leader in sustainability.

You can help make this happen, by becoming a postcard activist. It’s easy!
