NRC anti-idling campaign stickers The David Suzuki Foundation works hard to convince policy makers to help create a sustainable future for us all. And you – the members of our Nature Challenge community – are doing what you can to green your lives and spread the word on earth-friendly activities. Here are some stories about people just like you.

Who helped North Americans turn away from tobacco? Kids. They told their parents to quit for the sake of everyone’s health, and the adults listened. Hurray for the power of children! They’re at it again, this time in the eco arena.

A group of Alberta pre-teens organized themselves into Eco-Air (Edmonton's Children's Organized Anti-Idling Recruiters). They marched themselves into that city’s Council chambers and voiced their concerns about Edmonton’s air quality, urging legislators to adopt an anti-idling bylaw. People have taken to calling them ‘greenagers’.

Here’s some of the things they’re saying:
  • "I saw a car idling and thought it would be a problem because it was making it hard for me to breathe." (Eco-air founder Anna Talman, 9
  • "Idling harms people like me…. and polar bears are my favourite animal and it makes me sad to see them all die….we don't want to be going around with gas masks on and talking like Darth Vader." (Willow Austin, 12)
  • "I tell my parents to stop (idling their cars) and I am educating them." (Mikayla Evans, 11)
Here’s another anti-idling success story, started by an army of one. (For more cute kidlets caring about the planet, check out the Powerwise Commercial ‘Treehouse’). Get your own little ones involved with David Suzuki’s Nature Challenge for Kids.
