![]() ![]() Who said a New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other? Polls show Canadians are making green promises this year more than ever before. We all invent the future with the lifestyle choices we make every single day. You want this to be the year that the environment is a priority, for your neighbour and your political leader (even better if your neighbour IS your political leader...) and we want to make it easy for you to live green. Here are four eco-resolutions for 2008 to help you get started: FoodEveryone avows to shed excess pounds after the annual December face-stuffing. Put away the bird seed diet and unplug Jane Fonda! Consider meatless meals at least one day a week and both you and the planet will lighten your loads. TransportationDreaming about going somewhere warm? If you must get away, choose a favourite green energy project and make your vacation carbon neutral. Then you’ll be just like 500 NHL hockey players who’ve offset their travel for 2008! Fly economy (more people per plane = fewer emissions) on a daytime flight (less climate impact) and pack small (a lighter plane burns less fuel). EnergyHere’s another multi-impact resolution that will save the planet AND (get a) jump on the tax man. Take advantage of grants, rebates, discounts and other incentives to help you use less energy. Check out the details at Environment Canada’s new web site. Public actionThere's always an election around the corner. Since politicians design platforms to attract voters, there’s no time like the present to tell Ottawa you want real, effective legislation to protect the earth. Write your MP and tell him or her you’ll be voting for the environment. Check out our facelift David Suzuki’s Nature Challenge kicked off 2008 with a new look. We’ve regrouped the actions everyone can take to protect nature under four headings: Food, Transportation, Energy and Public Action. Hope you like it. . Pass it on Want to get others involved? One of our brightest stars in David Suzuki’s Nature Challenge - Jay O’Hara, currently living in Brazil - put together this powerful video about global warming solutions. Check it out, then send it on to everyone you know.
