Reducing personal greenhouse gas emissions makes sense. Those familiar with the Nature Challenge will have an easy time with it because many of the 10 steps are designed to do just that.

Check your actions on the Nature Challenge calculator. You may already be taking the One-Tonne Challenge and not even know it!

These steps can also help us save money by reducing the amount of fuel we burn – and Canadians are no strangers to rising fuel costs.

By taking simple steps like driving less often, driving a fuel-efficient vehicle, improving home insulation, using an electronic thermostat and buying Energy Star appliances, we can keep more money in our wallets and help the climate at the same time.

But if all Canadians took the One-Tonne Challenge, would we meet our Kyoto goals?

No. Not even close. And here’s why:
