Make Change with your token

Just imagine what your city would look like if you had convenient, affordable, and efficient mass transit. You'd spend less time in your car and save a lot of money. You can make it happen by sending an e-mail to the Prime Minister right now.

The federal government could devote a portion of the gasoline tax it now collects to a new National Public Transit Renewal Fund. This fund could be given to cities to build and extend urban transit infrastructure.

Better transit would reduce our dependence on cars which causes problems like air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and traffic congestion.

Copy and paste the message below into an e-mail and send it to the Prime Minister at pm@pm.gc.ca.

Don't forget to add your name and address at the bottom!

Dear Right Honourable Stephen Harper,

More than 80% of Canadians live in cities. Unfortunately, declining air quality and the stress of traffic congestion are leading to a lower quality of life in our metropolitan areas.

Your government has an important opportunity to help shape the future of Canadian cities. I believe the federal government should dedicate $1.5 billion of the gasoline tax it collects each year to a new National Public Transit Renewal Fund. This fund would then be available to cities interested in building and extending urban transit infrastructure that would improve the quality of life for urban residents.

Sincerely,
