"David Suzuki Digs My Garden" Photo Contest

Rules and Regulations

Eligibility
The contest is open to Canadian residents only* (David Suzuki Foundation directors, board-members and employees, as well as their immediate families, cohabitants, agents or contractors are not eligible). Non-residents of Canada can send photos and stories, but will not be eligible for prizes for legal reasons. Photos entered must not have been previously published. Individuals can only win once. Gardens should be free of chemicals pesticides and chemical fertilizers. The definition of ‘pesticides’ includes insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, rodenticides, algaecides, and slimicides. Any litigation respecting the conduct and awarding of a prize in this publicity contest in Québec may be submitted to the Régis des alcools, des courses et des jeux for a ruling. (*Legal considerations require restricting the contest to Canadian residents. Our apologies to friends residing outside the country.)

Format
Digital entries may be submitted electronically as jpeg files using Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/digyourgarden/. Colour or black and white prints must be at least 5" x 7" but not more than 8" x 12" and unmounted. 35 mm colour slides and transparencies must be mounted.

Or send as jpeg files burned to compact disc (CD). Digital files should be at least 1600 pixels wide for a horizontal image or 1600 pixels tall for a vertical image, and no larger than 4MB 4,000 KB. Content alteration of digital files is not acceptable; cropping of photos is permitted, tonal or colour corrections are acceptable, including black and white conversion.

Entries and Identification
Limit of one entry per category per entrant. All mail entries may be submitted in one envelope.

Publication
Winners' names and photographs will be published on the David Suzuki Foundation website (www.davidsuzuki.org), in the David Suzuki Foundation's online “Nature Challenge" newsletter, and in the David Suzuki Foundation's printed “Finding Solutions” newsletter. The David Suzuki Foundation reserves the non-exclusive right to publish any entry and/or use any entry in promotional material.

Deadline
Mailed entries must be postmarked on or before September 5, 2007 and must be received by September 14th, 2007. Entries uploaded through the David Suzuki Foundation Flickr photogroup (http://www.flickr.com/groups/digyourgarden/)  must be uploaded before 8:00 p.m. PST on September 14th, 2007.

Judging
The finalists will be selected by a panel of judges in Vancouver, B.C. on September 18th, 2007. Winners will be notified by 5 p.m. EST on October 31, 2007. Decision of the judges is final.

Return of Entries
Winning entries will be temporarily retained by the David Suzuki Foundation. All contestants who provide a pre-paid return envelope for their entries will have their entries returned by February 27, 2008.

Responsibility
The David Suzuki Foundation cannot be held responsible for entries that are lost, damaged, or delayed during transportation.

The David Suzuki Foundation is not responsible for any failure of the website during this contest. Nor is it responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software or any e-mail, online or internet entry lost due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer or property related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material in the promotion.

Prizes
There is one Grand Prize for each category consisting of  a “David Suzuki Digs My Garden T-Shirt ($30 approx. value) and a Saltspring Island Heritage Seeds $30 Gift Certificate.
