Dr. David Suzuki:
Award-winning geneticist and broadcaster David Suzuki is the Foundation's Co-Founder with Tara Cullis. He is familiar to audiences around the world as host of CBC TV's long-running series, The Nature of Things. From 1969 to 2001 he was a faculty member at the University of British Columbia, and is currently professor emeritus. He has authored over 30 books, and is widely recognized as a world leader in sustainable ecology. Dr. Suzuki has received numerous awards for his work, including a UNESCO prize for science, a United Nations Environment Program medal, and is a Companion of the Order of Canada. He has 16 honorary doctorates from universities in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. For his support of Canada's First Nations people, Dr. Suzuki has been honored with five names and formal adoption by two tribes. Dr. Tara Cullis: An award-winning writer and former instructor at Harvard University, Dr. Cullis is President of the David Suzuki Foundation. She has been a key player in several environmental movements around the world. Dr. Cullis has worked extensively with Canada’s First Nations people and was adopted into the Raven clan of the Haida Nation. An active campaigner and remarkable organizer, Dr. Cullis founded or co-founded nine organizations before starting the David Suzuki Foundation in 1990. Ray Anderson:
Mr. Anderson is the founder and Chair of Interface Inc., the world’s largest carpet manufacturer based in Atlanta, Georgia. He is in demand as a speaker and author sharing his company’s leadership and successes in becoming environmentally sustainable through cutting-edge efficiency standards and technology. He is active on numerous boards throughout Canada and the U.S. John Bankes: As the current Managing Director of Artemis Management Group and the former chair of Minacs International, Mr. Bankes has a vast array of knowledge of Canadian finance and business. He has served on the Boards of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall, the Royal Life Saving Society of Canada, the Canadian Opera Company, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, and the McMichael Canadian Art Foundation. Stephen R. Bronfman: Stephen is a private business executive with world-wide interests in sports, entertainment, broadcasting and communications. He carries on his family's tradition of important philanthropic contributions as Governor of the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, Director of the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts, the CRB Foundation, President of the Samuel and Saidye Bronfman Family Foundation and President of the Stephen R. Bronfman Foundation. Dr. Wade Davis: Wade is an anthropologist, photographer and writer who received his Ph.D. in biology from Harvard University. Author of 10 books, he is Explorer-In-Residence at the National Geographic Society. Stephanie Green: Stephanie is a chartered accountant and a Fellow in the Institute of Chartered Accountants. She was an audit partner with KPMG where she practiced for 23 years. She has sat on the boards of British Columbia Buildings Corporation (a Crown Corporation of BC), Western Pacific Trust, and Collingwood School in West Vancouver. James Hoggan: James Hoggan is the president of the award-winning public relations firm James Hoggan & Associates. In addition to offering communications advice to public institutions and to local, national and international corporate clients, Mr. Hoggan serves as chair of the David Suzuki Foundation (DSF); a Trustee of the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education; and a board member of Future Generations Canada and Future Generations International. In addition to having led the largest ever research project on sustainability in Canada, Mr. Hoggan also chairs a sustainable development project in the Four Great Rivers region, an environmentally pristine, but endangered corner of Eastern Tibet; and he is the founder of DeSmogBlog.com, a weblog dedicated to exposing the public relations tactics that are being used to confuse the public about climate change. Murray Pettem: Murray is the executive director of a private charitable foundation, dedicated to promoting positive change in the area of environmental conservation. He received an L.LB. from the University of Calgary and practiced law for several years in Calgary. Miles Richardson Peter Steele:
Peter is a lawyer who arbitrates Indian Residential School Abuse claims and formerly was vice-chair of B.C. Workers Compensation Review Board. He has also served on a number of boards including the B.C Council of Administrative Tribunals, the Council of Canadian Administrative Tribunals, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Alexandra Foundation (a community service foundation for neighbourhood houses) and the Avalon Recovery Society (drop-in centres for women in recovery). Severn Cullis-Suzuki: Severn Cullis-Suzuki has been active in environmental and social justice since she was a child. At the age of 12, Severn closed a Plenary Session at 1992’s Rio Earth Summit with a powerful speech to the political representatives, and in 1993 she received the UN Environment Program's Global 500 Award. She is well-known for her work as a writer, speaker and television host, and is co-founder of the Skyfish Project. Peter A. Victor: Peter Victor is one of the pioneers of ecological economics. He is an environmental studies professor at at York University, as well as a former Dean of the faculty. He has also served as Assistant Deputy Minister of the Environmental Sciences and Standards Division in the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. Dr. Victor was the founding President of the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics and chairs the Great Lakes Innovation Committee and CFI Ecology Committee. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences, the Advisory Panel of TruCost, the City of Toronto's Environment Roundtable, the Advisory Committee on the National Accounts for Statistics Canada, and the Ontario Government's Advisory Committee on Transboundary Science. Dr. Victor has served on the Boards of several prominent environmental organizations and he has appeared as an expert witness on environmental economics before various Commissions and Committees. Honorary Board Members Margaret Atwood With deepest sympathy we regret the passing of Honorary Board member and Body Shop founder Anita Roddick in September 2007. She was an inspiration to the staff and board members of the David Suzuki Foundation. Her early support of the our activities helped us develop relationships with other business leaders who were interested in our mission. Her thoughtfulness and generosity will always be remembered.
