The David Suzuki Foundation Since 1990, the David Suzuki Foundation has worked to find ways for society to live in balance with the natural world that sustains us. Focusing on three program areas - oceans and sustainable fishing, climate change and energy, and sustainability - the Foundation uses science and education to promote solutions that help conserve nature in Canada's terrestrial and marine environments. Learn more about us at www.davidsuzuki.org. The Marine Conservation Program is committed to the protection of Canada’s ocean and freshwater environments. Areas of focus include sustainable fisheries and seafood, realizing ecosystem-based management of marine and freshwater environments, and reducing the impact of industrial and development activity on aquatic ecosystems. We take a leadership role and work in coalition with allies when that is the most effective approach. Director, Marine Conservation Program As a key member of the Foundation’s management team, you will report directly to the CEO in our Vancouver office. You will lead a passionate team of specialists, biologists and outreach coordinators. As an inspiring leader, you will get the opportunity to develop, implement and administer the Marine Conservation Program and develop program areas; communicate your work to internal and external audiences; provide leadership and manage staff; and build relationships with individuals, industry, business, and governments. By leading projects from conception to fruition, you will play an integral role in shaping the program to fulfil its mission of protecting the health and environment of future generations. You will ensure that the Marine program strategy complies with the Foundation’s overall plans and identify and help carry out cross program initiatives that support Sustainability Within a Generation. In addition, you will develop and implement strategic communication plans with our dynamic Communications team and act as the program’s media spokesperson when required. You will also be a creative participant in the development of fundraising plans, including proposal development, program reports, and updates for external funders. With a solid understanding of human resources practices, you will support, coach and evaluate program staff through recognition, motivation and supporting employees in their individual career development. Skillset A Master’s Degree in a related field (or equivalent) with 10 years experience managing national programs, and 5 years leading teams or, significant related education and experience. With solid knowledge of marine science, including fisheries practices, policies and legislation, ecosystem based management of fisheries and marine environment, you have exceptional people, budgeting, strategic planning, and project management skills. Your current network includes senior levels of government, NGOs and business, plus you have succeeded in developing and implementing fundraising strategies.
