Not only does renewable energy protect the environment, it also strengthens the economy. The renewable energy sector is a powerful industry when it comes to creating jobs.

In Germany the wind industry employs over 45,000 people. In China, the solar hot water industry already employs 200,000 people. A David Suzuki Foundation study shows Ontario alone could create 25,000 jobs in the renewable energy sector by 2010, and 77,000 jobs by 2020.

In a job per megawatt basis, the biomass, geothermal, solar and wind industries generate more employment in construction and operations and maintenance than the nuclear and fossil fuel industries.
