So you’ve already recycled your newspapers, replaced all your lightbulbs with compact fluorescents, and started taking the bus to work. But there’s only so much individuals can do to protect the environment. The government needs to do its part too.

For example, it’s great if you’ve stopped using toxic pesticides in your garden. But it would be better if all your neighbors stopped using chemicals too. Many communities have passed bylaws banning pesticides,  and this is a perfect example of policies doing a world of good for the environment.

Many changes are best done collectively. So what can governments do to make Canada more sustainable? Plenty.
