Science and Research
Today’s knowledge about coastal ecosystems and oceans is very limited, especially the state of knowledge about the cumulative environmental effects that result from the many different types of industrial activity in our oceans.
Until now, research has often focused on single-species or single-sector impacts. The more we know about Canada’s oceans, the more effectively will be able to develop management and protection plans that guarantee the long term health of our oceans. The David Suzuki Foundation invests in research and advocates to government to spend more money on research that helps to determine not only the base level condition of the marine environment but also to determine the overall effects of various activities on the greater web of life that exists in our oceans. The ecosystem services provided by our oceans make a significant contribution to our culture and our economy. The David Suzuki Foundation is committed to profiling these benefits through research and communications. As part of our research commitment we are involved in organizations like the Pacific Marine Analysis and Research Association (PACMARA).
