David Suzuki is going on the biggest tour of his career...and I hope Canada is ready for it!
Right now David Suzuki is getting ready to take the "If YOU were Prime Minister..." show on the road! The office has been buzzing with activity, and it's like being caught in a whirlwind that starts in our Vancouver office and will only increase in size until it covers the rest of Canada.
Chances are the tour is heading to a destination near you. Have a look at the itinerary: http://www.davidsuzuki.org/tour/default.asp
While you're there, download our cool new Public Service Announcement in MP3 format.

I hope Mr. Suzuki, on his "TOUR", can persuade the Province of Alberta to discontinue the practise of
spraying roadways with some kind of poison to stop the growth trees and shrubs, whose growth need to controlled. The wildlife, especially birds, are not being considered in this application. Thank you Mr. Suzuki, you are the greatest crusader of this entire planet.

I grew up watching David Suzuki on the Nature of Things. It's one of the few shows I can remember our entire family watching together (aside from Jim Henson and the Muppets).
I'm a far cry from a hemp wearing, tree-hugging hippy, but I have always tried to make decisions that are in line with making as small as possible environmental / ecological impacts. My wife and I purchased a house last year in the not-so-urban-sprawl urban sprawl of mississauga (sorry DS!). In our attempts to make the home more environmentally friendly, we looked at several roofing options, hoping to incorporate solar roofing into our plans. Unfortunately it is something that seems to be financially beyond the reach of many Canadians currently. As with many new technologies, the few must make the greater investment in order for the many to be able to recognize the benefits of those technologies.
I'm always shocked to see the subdivisions, new and old, that don't have any trees. Take off or land on a clear day in Toronto and look to the north / west end of the city and you'll see what I mean. I'm sure that this is a common theme in many of the growth areas of Canada.
Solar roofing seems to me to be one of the things that this ceaselessly sprawling society needs to adopt as quickly as possible - especially seeing that the trends in energy consumption are not declining. Everything is battery powered, everything seems to have an LED light in it, or have some sort of "quick wake up mode". It all leads to greater energy consumption disguised as convenience.
The Government of Canada should be making an investment in technologies like Solar Roofing, implementing laws to incorporate these materials into new development building codes. It seems to me that this is on of those rare no-lose situations?
urban sprawl isn't going to end tomorrow, neither is our energy crisis. Why not put the two together and get something positive out of it?
If you can convince the Canadian Government to give this a try, tell them I'll be firs

I wish that Dr. Suzuki could come up north to Sudbury...the land of lakes and Science North. I applaud all your work for this world.

If I were PM, I would:
- Leave Kyoto forever
- Focus on the environment, not CO2 (fertilizer) emissions.
- Focus on supporting capitalism and growth, in Canada as well as globally, in order to give people a decent life, in a clean and safe environment.
