Bonjour Moncton!

Holy, what a venue. This is old-timey theatre at its best. Pulling up in front. David Suzuki on the marquee. People waving and cheering. Mark, the theatre manager, was amazing. He knows his theatre like an old friend. And what a friend - beautiful acoustics and beautiful to look at, the theatre also put the audience up close and personal with the doc.

As a crowd and as a venue, Moncton was first-rate. Before he got halfway onto the stage, David already had a standing ovation. These folks were seriously fired up. So much so that Dr. Suzuki was nearly in tears during the Q&A session as he talked about his own family and what they meant to him. This honestly felt more like a gathering of friends than anything else.

David Coon of the Conservation Council of New Brunswick opened for Suzuki (he said he felt like the opening act for Neil Young). David stayed with us throughout New Brunswick. In fact, he became such a fixture that our young videographer Simon asked if he was going to stay on for the rest of the tour!

By the way, Simon has become REALLY popular. His touque festooned with tour buttons is a real hit with the ladies and helps him stand out in a crowd. That's good, because it's his job to get as many Canadians as he can on tape telling us what they would do if they were Prime Minister.

I was so impressed with Dr. David Suzuki's presentation. One of the important things I liekd about it was how the 'opening act' focussed on our local situations. We hear so much about the major global environment issues that we can easily forget the situations in our own backyard. I guess I'm guilty for forgetting about that, however it has now allowed me to re-focus.

Our local newspaper, the Times-Transcript, was flooded with positive comments for the presentation. I admit even I submitted one that was actually chosen for Letter of the Day, although what really spurred me to do so was a previous submission to the paper dismissing Global Warming and creating uncertainty. I just had to correct him, and anyone else who may have been swayed.

All the best to your group on your tour.

Moncton was tres fantastique!

What a beautiful theatre. And the stage manager kept cramming people into every knook and cranny he could find.

Shhh! Don't tell the fire marshal.
