Environmental pollution and degradation take a tremendous toll on the health of Canadians. Each year, thousands of Canadians die and millions become ill after exposure to environmental contaminants.

So what can be done?

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, the David Suzuki Foundation proudly presents, Our Environment is Our Health -- an exciting interactive discussion about how Canada can best protect its citizens against the health effects of environmental hazards. The evening will include renowned scientist and broadcaster, Dr. David Suzuki; noted Canadian environmental health physician, Dr. Lynn Marshall; and the Ambassador of Sweden to Canada, Her Excellency Ingrid Iremark.

Best of all, this is a free, non-ticketed event open to the public. Seating is limited so please arrive early to avoid disapointment.

Check out the audio promo for the event.

I knew Dr. Susuki could not retire! Go Susuki!

I have been reading about the benefits of EFA'a and how the Neanderthals may have become extinct because they ate red meat and no fish.

Hemp is something that could help save the health of Canadian's big time.

Here is my latest poem on the subject of health:

The Cause

Inspired by my MS Carnation Drive experience

So many fund raise a cure! How can there be so much need?

Where is our good health? How women bleed!

Why are we so sick, in a land of such wealth?

Does our bold greed for more, undermine our good health?

Mankind has been blinded by his own play for power.

We refuse to look out from our high ivory tower.

Let's leave all the cures and look for the cause.

Stop polluting our biosphere. Can we all please press pause.

Remove all man's toxins recently added to life.

Survival of the fittest was nature's way to handle strife.

We must preserve our lovely planet, handle it with care.

We need to grow up our young; their lives we must spare.

Man needs to understand sometimes nature makes the best.

The cures can come after we conclude the CAUSE quest.

ONE

One woman can't keep up to kids, cars and lawns.

She cleans, she cooks, she cries as a new day dawns.

One man can't keep up; he needs gold, toys, viagra.

He may help raise his kids, but tears fall like Niagara.

One child can't keep up. They need love and attention.

And a community to raise them. Delinquent prevention.

One is not enough. One life has to end.

One moves on in wisdom. Life's death I defend.

We can only exist if we all live as ONE;

All things on this earth, living under one sun.

I am so excited that I will have the chance to see and hear Dr. Suzuki in person for the first time. I will be riding my electric bicycle to the event and hope to see other EV's parked outside!

Will Dr. Suzuki be commenting on an environmental pollution issue currently affecting eastern Ontario? Since the end of June, two Algonquin First Nations and some non-native groups have been fighting uranium exploration and mining that was to take place on Alonquin land near Sharbot Lake. The mine would be located at the headwaters of the Mississippi River, which runs through a large portion of Eastern Ontario into the Ottawa River. http://www.miningwatch.ca/index.php?/free_entry/algonquins_contact
