Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Officer (DO) is based in our Vancouver office and works as a member of the Development Major Gifts team to help raise private sector funds from donors and prospects with a giving history and/or capacity of $100,000 and up.  This portfolio includes proactive fundraising support of the $60M Legacy Campaign, with a focus on endowment, in collaboration and coordination with other Development programs and initiatives, and providing 75% time direct support to the Legacy Campaign Director (LCD), and 25% time to the Director of Development (DOD), in their efforts to develop and grow the major gift activities.

You will have an assigned portfolio of prospective donor and donor relation’s activities, and will develop financial goals, plans and timelines based on analysis and research and will share responsibility for Campaign case statement development, database and records maintenance, and proposal and stewardship report preparation in support of the Campaign, as well as for direct responsibility constituencies and projects.  Other key duties include:
  • Develop tailored annual strategies, plans, financial and non-financial goals for assigned constituents
  • Work with LCD to support overall campaign strategies and new and emerging priorities, as well as donor cycle support for major national and western-based prospective donors, donors, and Leadership Gifts Committee (Vcr)
  • Implement, coordinate and evaluate fundraising progress including working with donor research, prospect identification/rating, cultivation, solicitation, recognition and stewardship activities
You will participate in the development of the Departmental annual plan and budget that includes strategies, financial goals and timelines for donor renewal, upgrade, and acquisition of major donors, pledge fulfillment, cultivation, recognition and stewardship activities.  Other detailed responsibilities include:
  • Participates in analysis and evaluation of Department activities and own portfolio on a regular basis and implements recommended corrective strategies and goals as needed
  • Conducts own research, and coordinates with researcher, to support sound, tailored fundraising strategies are in place, to gain marketplace knowledge, and proactively secure current knowledge of prospective donors and existing donors
  • Ensures all prospective donors are incorporated into overall prospect review process
  • Prepares briefing and debriefing notes for donor/prospect calls by Legacy Campaign Director, Director of Development, Executive Director, Board or Committee members
  • Solicits prospective donors by utilizing expertise of senior executives and/or Board and volunteers depending on the level of potential gift and RM assignment
  • Ensures a tailored donor recognition program and a year-round stewardship program is implemented for major gift donors in this portfolio, including the completion of donor agreements for gifts secured, in collaboration with appropriate Program/DSF staff
  • Ensures effective and personalized donor relations activities are conducted, including accuracy and appropriate timeliness of gifts collection, receipting and reporting of donations within the portfolio, and methodologies to keep the donors engaged
Participation in event management planning is also involved, including implementation of campaign related and Foundation events. 

Supporting fundraising includes monitoring the portfolio budget and ensuring database accuracy.

Qualifications:
You have completed a university degree and have three to five years major gift fundraising experience in the not-for-profit environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  Primary skills include:  sound knowledge of fundraising, donor cycle strategies and market; proven ability to analyze, plan, initiate and complete projects in a timely basis; creativity; exceptional written and oral communications skills; computer skills  on MS Office word processing and spreadsheets; Explorer, and Raiser’s Edge 7.  A valid BC Drivers License required
