If I were Prime Minister I would protect our precious biodiversity by tripling the area designated as parks and marine reserves. Under strict protection, these lands and waters bodies would be for non-human use only, never to be exploited for profit, only to be observed in their virgin state by a small group of visitors at a time. The protected areas would include the immediate habitat of endangered or threatened biodiversity and ensure that enough land and water was protected to allow non threatened species a secure existence ensuring that they never become threatened, extirpated, or extinct.
JEFF, WINNIPEG, MANITOBA
I would make saving old growth forests and protecting the natural wild habitats of all endangered species (including marine environments) a top priority.
PHOENIX, VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA
Protect the animals and their environment. Keep as much parkland as possible.
JULIE, MAPLE RIDGE, BRITISH COLUMBIA
I would start protecting the wild spaces that we have remaining in Canada. I would put the environment first. Too much of our wildlife is already suffering. As Aldo Leopold stated: “You can’t save a species, you have to save an ecosystem.”
SADIE, GOLDEN, BRITISH COLUMBIA
Establish more nationally protected parks and wildlife reserves.
GERI, SUMMERVILLE, NOVA SCOTIA

MAUREEN, RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO
I would create more parks and green spaces in cities and around the country, and protected areas for natural landscapes and wildlife.

ANDREW, FREDERICTON, NEW BRUNSWICK
I would ensure that endangered species listed under COSEWIC do not fail to be listed under SARA for socioeconomic reasons (as is the case with the North Atlantic Cod fisheries). I would train law enforcement personnel to ensure their compliance with the protection of species listed under SARA, and develop harsher penalties to those that fail to comply with the law on this matter ...
ANNE-MICHELLE, TORONTO, ONTARIO
I would protect wildlife habitat from development.
DUNCAN, SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK
Implement Canada’s Species at Risk Act to protect our biodiversity.
