Earlier this month, the David Suzuki Foundation got together with over a dozen widely varying organizations to support the province of Ontario’s proposed cosmetic pesticide ban. The links between pesticides and serious illnesses, such as cancer, reproductive problems and neurological diseases are well documented - these things should be shelved, and not in stores!
Thankfully, people and local governments are saying they want to get their lawns off drugs. Ontario is poised to join Quebec and over a hundred municipalities across Canada in banning cosmetic pesticides.
But how strong will the legislation be? That could be up to you.
The province of Ontario is now taking public submissions on their proposed pesticide ban - check it out, make yourself heard.
Where city and municipal bans have been put in place, there is strong evidence to show that children face far less exposure. A study by the Quebec National Institute of Public Health, states “though 98% of children tested were found to have pesticides from food, water and air in their bodies, the tests did not find any lawn-care herbicides in the bodies of children living in municipalities with a ban.”
Pretty much begs the question - Is a lawn free of weeds worth making kids seriously ill, or risking not having children at all?

Chaos and Creation In My Own Back Yard
Inspired by Sir Paul McCartney
For my neighbours
While I was away, in a foreign land,
My green lawn grass died; weeds took a stand.
They didn't need water. They grew from the dew.
Changing carbon to oxygen, for me and for you.
Instead of man's grass, which requires much noise,
Nature's plants grew, without poison or toys.
Dandelion, chamomile, milk thistle, clover,
Ground covers and trees were growing all over.
Many of these plants were sought after and used,
To help us stay healthy. Is nature being misused?
Bad business is rampant. Why try to take down,
Our natural medicine, that many renown?
Lets all stop lawn maintenance pollution!
Be NOT of the problem. Be OF the solution!

Update on cariboo entry.
I received a letter from Pat Bell that said the following:
"I would like to assure you that British Columbia is committed to working with all stakeholders, including environmental non-government organizations like the David Suzuki Foundation, to protect all species at risk in a manner that ensures decisions are based on available science and socio-economic analysis."
Can I believe it?
Take care and never give up!

Update on Linda Keen:
I just called Stockwell Day's office and left a message saying I wasn't happy with the firing and to phone me back to discuss the reason!

Stockwell Day's office called me back and I voiced my concern over Linda Keen and the state of our nuclear power plants. I told Mr. Sharpe that I think we need more whistle blowers, not less. Our health is going down the test tube. The cost to bury nuclear waste and maintain an old plant is going to ensure resources will still be stripped from the earth beyond its ability to renew them. All could be gone before my children grow up. The amount of mri's in demand is astronomical and increasing every year, proving we are actually getting sicker. We cannot continue to prolong life at the expense of the future generations and the survival of our lovely blue planet.
Let's GO SOlar!
