The surprise is that it's new.
Given its focus and what it covers -- the natural world, the varieties of life on the planet (among humans and everywhere else) -- the work of National Geographic has always implicitly been entirely about the environment.
But now it's set up a special website that pulls together all of its explicitly environmental coverage. The site includes crises and threats to ecology, what individuals can do to help save and protect the planet, and a brilliant look at what's at stake, presented in the photography and video the National Geographic has always been admired and rewarded for.
