When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen - Ernest Hemingway
Well, Canadians are apparently talking. According to a new poll by Angus Reid, many Canadian adults disagree with the conclusions of their environment minister concerning the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol.
Fifty-five per cent of respondents disagree with John Baird’s assessment of the situation that committing to the Kyoto Protocol to reduce greenhouse gas emissions would drive Canada into a deep economic recession.
But is anyone listening? Let's hope our leaders take Ernest's advice.
Fun Fact #23: Did you know that Ernest Hemingway once wrote for the Toronto Star? It's true.
Meanwhile, Toronto's other paper, the Toronto Sun reported yesterday that CAW president Buzz Hargrove claims environmentalists are using "scare tactics" to persuade Canadians of impending "Global Warming Doom."

Dave Dowling
In My Opinion, Buzz Hargrove should paint his tounge an environmentally friendly Green! Perhaps a nice shade of maple leaf in summer green!
Then with his environmentally friendly green tounge, he could then go around and spred the "buzz" on environmentally friendly cars, like electric cars, or hydrogen cars or compressed air cars, or other such cars and vehicles that do not pollute, and how Canada and Canadians could profit vastley and save the planet by investing 1/2 of the federal surplus in factories that produce such vehicles that are environmentally friendly, and the other 1/2 of the surplus could be put into tax incentives so consumers can purchase such wonders like environmentally friendly vehicles.
Canada could very easily exceed Kyoto, by my plan above or even just by growing hemp for fuel. just 5% of Canada's land growing hemp for fuel would fuel all of North America, without tar sands. And hemp would suck vast amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere. No nuclear power plant needed.
UNfortuantly Alberta tar sands can be exploited for the unbelievable lowest in the world oil royalty rates of 1 % of the net.
Farmers would at least want minimum wage. And that is something corporations do not like paying. For proof of this, just go look at all the products corporations import from countries where they would be thrown in jail if they tried to pay workers here, what they pay them there.
when it comes to corporations going environmentally friendly, Corporations and thier government lackies always bleet that it will consume all thier profits and cause the ending of the corporate world. So far that has not happened, no matter how much bleeting they do.

Oh, my gosh, Mr. Dowling, you are also a visionary! How can we make our leaders see what we see?! It is criminal what our laws have done with cannabis. Over on the particpate.net blog, I just posted how we should roll over to clover to put more leaves in the air. Man's hybrid lawn grass guzzles resources and gives little back. Another sad example how the consumer was taken advantage of.
Corporations rule and politicians talk.
I agree with you. We could easily meet Kyoto but we are following the wrong leader. Al Gore is the one who should be leading. Then Canada would follow. Go Gore!

I`m really angry with The gazette`s editorial page. Last week Canwest had Don Gardner write an op-piece apr 3 ...entitled David suzuki is starting to sound like a grmpy old man... I wrote a critical letter back, dealing with the 15 paragraphs giving 15 phrases describing Dr Suzuki as grumpy old man and dealt with the stupid comparison of a felon choosing 5 or 20 yrs in jail vs. 5 or 20 per cent loss of the world`s economy--as well as citing Wendy Mesley`s program outling the cancer effects of environmental pollution---I was pleased at least to see other responses posted but not mine---I guess I was too long and too specific---I want to know why and who at Canwest instructed this apologist`s tirade. Seems like to same old response just keeps on sprewing---go after the messager not the message. Take care...Marg.

oh Buzz. And to think our unions were once a progressive force.
