Laugh lines

Two stories -- one about a laugh and one about a line.

The line is drawn by an artist in Brooklyn, New York, named Eve Mosher. She's laying down a four-inch-wide blue chalk line along 70 miles of coast. The line marks the point where floodwaters could crest as a result of rising sea levels because of global warming. Some of her neighbors think she's doing city work. Othersd are baffled. Some are curious and want to talk. The page linked to at the beginning of this paragraph includes a slide show and a video of Ms. Mosher at work.

That's the lines. here's the laugh: The satirical newspaper The Onion has been expanding its online presence steadily, to the point where it now boasts fake TV news and fake radio news, done in the same deliberately earnest, straightforward style that lampoons standard-brand media and makes it stories that much funnier. A perfect example is today's story about the Bush administration's plans to finally deal with climate change.

And finally, as a bonus, another kind of line: bus lines and train lines -- specifically, the bus lines in Milton, Ontario, and the train lines to and from the small town west of Toronto. The city is offering free bus rides outside of peak hours to encourage people to leave their cars at home. It's also discounting GO Train tickets into and out of Toronto with the same rationale -- cleaner commuting.
