Tall, Green and Gold

Hearst's tower of power.

The Hearst Corporation -- a media company that publishes newspapers, magazines and owns TV stations and cable channels -- is leading green building with its Manhattan headquarters. The Hearst Tower, at 300 West 57th Street (and Eighth Avenue), is the first in New York to get the US Green Building Council's Gold LEED certification. Hearst's website for the building has its history, design, construction, compendiums of facts and a video. Imagine if other architects and builders made sustainability as integral a part of all their projects as Hearst has done with its head office.
