Vancouver's summer may have been late in coming this year, but that didn't dampen the Latin community's party mood.
Latincouver hosted the annual Carnaval del Sol for the third year last month and once again, it was a huge success. More than 10,000 people joined the party that took over five city blocks on downtown Granville Street.
For the David Suzuki Foundation, the music, fun and food presented the perfect setting for our Climate Change and Clean Energy team to talk with the public about sustainable living. And of course, none of our public engagement work is possible without the help of our volunteers.
To top it off, Dr. Suzuki spoke to people at the festival about how climate change is affecting the lives of people in South America.
Over at King George Park in Richmond, followers of the Buddhist Light International Association celebrated the start of summer with a two-day weekend Fair. More than 5,000 people showed up for the annual festival. The DSF Climate team hosted an information booth, and climate campaigner Winnie Hwo spoke on behalf of the Foundation. Our message was that human actions are causing climate change and the time to take action is now — which coincides with the theme of this year's Buddhist Fair: "Greening the world begins with greening your heart."
