Notice anything different in your garden centre this spring?

Restrictions on selling "mixed use" pesticides enter into force today. Retailers must restrict access to another 100 pesticides only permitted for used under limited exemptions.

This is one of the last steps in the implementation of Ontario's Cosmetic Pesticide Ban Act. Since 2009, the ban has prohibited the cosmetic use of nearly 300 lawn and garden pesticides. Already, the ban is having a positive effect. An Ontario government study of 10 urban streams found the amount of the three most common lawn-care pesticides has decreased by 80 per cent since the ban was introduced.

Ontario has one of the strongest bans on cosmetic pesticides in North America, and people like you helped make it happen by demonstrating your support for environmentally friendly gardening practices!
