Did you know that David and I are the voice of the Suzuki Report on 29 Alberta and B.C. radio stations? (Credit: Jenny Lee Silver)
Thanks to all of you who took time out of your busy planet-saving lives to answer a recent Queen of Green survey. Congrats to Heather of Courtenay, B.C. — the lucky winner of an iPod touch.
Here's a summary of what you said:
Which Queen of Green initiatives are you aware of?
Most of you know about my blog...well, here you are! But you might not realize that you can subscribe to my monthly digest — 48 per cent of you didn't know it existed. Since 61 per cent of you like contests, subscribe by May 31st and you'll be entered to win a set of non-toxic (PFOA and PFTE free), non-stick frying pans by Green Pan!
Next popular after this blog is David Suzuki's Queen of Green Facebook page. Take note: this is where I stash new recipes (94 per cent of you said you wanted more). Check the "Notes" section.
Fewer of you have heard my actual voice. David Suzuki and I are featured in the Suzuki Report, broadcast on 29 Alberta and B.C. radio stations. My mother once asked if I like the sound of my voice on the radio... I haven't decided. But I promise you'll hear excellent green tips Monday through Friday, twice- daily on these stations.
Least known is my syndicated "ask the Queen of Green" column which runs each Monday in the Metro News. Submit your green living questions to queenofgreen@metronews.ca or read past columns online. See answers for everything from "what is the greenest kitty litter?" to "can you recycle children's car seats?"
Where did you first hear of the Queen of Green?
The David Suzuki Foundation website scored highest. Not far behind were responses like: from a friend, Canadian Living magazine, David Suzuki Foundation staff, TV, at school, "her book" (weird, because I don't have one). My favourite answers were "Air Canada flight" (I'm blessed with the gift of gab) and "your mom". I'll pay her later. (Now you know where I get my gift of gab.)
I was happy to hear more than half of you aren't overwhelmed or paralyzed with the information I give you. My goal is to empower and I know you're a wealth of information, too. Don't hesitate to post an answer to each weekly blog question or share your events, advice, tips, and recipes on my Facebook page or Twitter @DavidSuzukiQoG.
Thanks again, and stay tuned for more survey results. Don't forget to subscribe for your chance to win a set of Green Pans!
Sincerely,
Lindsay Coulter, Queen of Green

I was recently responding to a discussion in LinkedIn on Jeeps and fuel economy. I really feel many North American auto suppliers have deliberately neglected to offer models they promote to the UK and Europe in North America. One in particular is the Jeep Wrangler which uses a Mercedes Diesel Engine and abides by some harsh European emissions standards but will never see Canadian shores. Another is the variety of Smart cars other than the Cabaret. Smart makes a number of cars and even a truck and yet you can’t get them in NA. Just recently, a local small engine repair place brought in small Suzuki trucks. And even then did they have some stiff regulations on their import. If we really want people to be more responsible we need to assure the tools are there to do so. It is apparent regulations and companies are not doing their part to assure variety and for a person to actually be responsible.
I had heard recently, that much of the poor choices in terms of vehicles is a result of the labor unions in the US trying to assure jobs for their members and pressuring companies and government to deny other manufactures into the marketplace. Talk about irresponsible.
