Queen of Green's Better Back to School Brigade brings together green living bloggers and advocates to share knowledge and inspiration.

Welcome to the Better Back to School Brigade

Creating change takes a community, and we'd love you to be a bigger part of ours! Between August 15 and September 15, the Queen of Green's #BetterBackToSchool Brigade will address waste-free lunches, green school supplies, detoxifying your kids' learning environments and outdoor learning, with a strong focus on time spent outdoors.

And of course, we'll have wonderful, green-living giveaways!

What's the Queen of Green Better Back to School Brigade?

It's a coalition of fabulous eco-bloggers and advocates who are dedicated to creating healthy learning environments for our kids. Many of us are writing about — and working toward — the same things. Let's share the knowledge, build on each other's stories and create a movement greater than the sum of its parts!

Between August 15 and September 15, you'll have opportunities to engage with the Better Back to School Brigade campaign through guest submissions to the Queen of Green blog, tweet ups, social-media events and giveaways. We're even working on a webinar with a world leader on the importance of nature for kids!

How do you get involved?

Bloggers, brands and organizations:
1. Email me to join the brigade! I'll respond with suggested blog topics, dates, connectivity tools and giveaway specifics.

2. Grab the brigade badge, shown above, for your blog.

We use a thermos for drinks/soups and reusable lunch bags. Just a little thought while making lunches can result in no waste and lots of taste :D

From the time I was in 4th grade, my younger brothers and I were responsible to make our own lunches for school the night before. At first, we packed our sandwiches in plastic bags, but at one point our school had a “litterless lunch” competition, and I remember going home and inquiring if my parents could buy us reusable containers so that we could have litterless lunches too. From that point on we used to pack all sorts of healthy leftovers in our thermoses and tupperware, and I definitely remember making the choice to pack fruits instead of fruit rollups and granola bars because as a 4th grader it was important to me that the food not have packaging. These beliefs have stayed with me through the years, and it makes me realize how important it is that we instill these core environmental values in our children at an early age.
