1. Can the David Suzuki Foundation help me write a will?

When writing a will, it's important to consult an expert professional who can provide advice based on your financial and philanthropic goals. The general information about gift planning we provide is not intended as a substitute for professional financial or legal advice.
We strongly advise you to consult with a lawyer and/or financial advisor to determine which options are best for you and your family, and to maximize the tax advantages of your gift.
What the Foundation can do is provide information such as our legal name and charitable registration number, record your wishes on our files and answer any questions you might have about our work or how your gift will be used.

3. Do I have to tell you that I have included the David Suzuki Foundation in my will?

That is entirely up to you, but we'd love to know. Less than 10 per cent of donors tell us they've included the Foundation in their wills.

We really appreciate when donors tell us about their plans because every future gift we find out about helps build the future revenue of this organization and will help ensure a solid financial foundation for years to come. This is especially important to David, as he knows there's lots of work yet to be done. And most importantly, it gives us an opportunity to connect with you and tell you how grateful we are and how much your support means to us.

Some donors send us basic details and sometimes include a photocopy of the portion of their will that refers to the Foundation. Please be assured that anything you share with us is strictly confidential and non-binding — you can always change your mind.

4. Do small bequests make a difference?

Absolutely! We receive legacy gifts of all sizes and, over time, they add up to millions of dollars. In fact, the Foundation's work depends entirely on donations from a wide range of sources, including thousands of individuals who contribute what they can. This grassroots funding model provides the independence we need to be effective environmental leaders.
