Less than one per cent of Canada's oceans is protected | Share your best Pacific Ocean stories | Oceans | Our projects | Healthy Oceans | Share your best Pacific Ocean stories | Issues

Canada has made many national and international commitments to establish marine protected areas, but has done little to actually meet these commitments. Canada still has less than one per cent of its ocean area protected, and it continues to underfund and under-deliver on the establishment of marine protected areas and other marine protection measures.

Well-planned and enforced marine protected areas have been shown to increase the size, abundance and diversity of marine life of important ocean areas.

Tell us a story of a special ocean area that you would like to see protected.
