MEDIA BRIEFING, MAY 29, OTTAWA

A technical briefing on carbon pricing

May 28, 2008 On Thursday May 29th, the David Suzuki Foundation and the Pembina Institute will brief media on the importance of government carbon pricing policies. This Ottawa briefing will include a discussion on carbon taxes and cap-and-trade systems, as well as offering a series of questions that should be posed in evaluating any carbon pricing policy.

WHY:
All of the major federal parties have announced a carbon pricing policy or are in the process of developing one. These policies deserve greater scrutiny, particularly as some provinces have already moved ahead with their own policies in advance of federal policy implementation. These regional initiatives, including B.C.’s carbon tax, the Western Climate Initiative cap and trade system, and the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative are policy landmarks that could be influential in the development of federal action on global warming in Canada.

WHEN:
Thursday, May 29, 2008, 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

WHERE:
National Press Theatre, 150 Wellington St., Ottawa

WHO:
