Management Team

Peter Robinson
Chief Executive Officer

Peter brings a diverse background spanning four decades in business, government and the not-for-profit sectors to the Foundation. Beginning his career as a park ranger in B.C., where he was twice decorated for bravery by the Governor General of Canada, Peter worked at B.C. Housing, a provincial crown corporation, eventually becoming their CEO. Before joining us in January 2008, he was the CEO of Mountain Equipment Co-op, the country’s largest outdoor equipment retailer. A long-time humanitarian volunteer, Peter has monitored prison conditions with the International Red Cross in Rwanda in 1998 and led a team for seven years that monitored detained asylum seekers in B.C. He is currently the Chair and Chancellor of B.C.-based Royal Roads University. Peter holds a Master of Arts in Conflict Analysis and Management, a Bachelor of Arts in Geography, and diplomas in Community Economic Development and Fish & Wildlife Management. In his spare time, Peter can be found relaxing in the Coast Mountains or kayaking among the Gulf Islands.

Dan Maceluch
Director of Communications

Dan leads the Communications team in supporting the Foundation's public outreach strategies. For over 20 years, Dan has helped public and private sector organizations across North America successfully manage their image, reputations, and issues. A native Montrealer, Dan is an avid hockey player and coach.

Morag Carter
Climate Change Director

Morag leads the climate change team’s efforts in addressing various aspects of climate change and energy policy. She has spent over 15 years amassing a wealth of experience in the areas of public health and environmental reform. Among her previous roles, Morag served as International Coordinator for the International POPs Elimination Network, as a Research Consultant for Toronto Public Health, and as a Toxics Environmental Health Campaigner with Greenpeace Canada. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Politics and Development from the University of Sussex.

Dave Waldren
Director of Sustainability

Dave oversees our plans to promote environmental health, a national sustainable development strategy, ecological fiscal reform, and biodiversity protection. Before joining us, he led a team of internationally-recognized experts in the design and delivery of a science-based Master’s Program in Sweden entitled “Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability.” He has also initiated and led a series of sustainability initiatives involving the public, private, and non-governmental sectors in Whistler, BC. David brings over 20 years experience in environmental management, strategic planning, municipal engineering and community change processes. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia and a Masters in Resource and Environmental Management from Simon Fraser University.

Jay Ritchlin
Director, Marine & Freshwater Conservation

Jay leads the Marine conservation team in their efforts to achieve sustainable fisheries and aquatic management in Canada. He has a biology degree from Kenyon College in the USA and over 15 years working on solutions to environmental challenges. Before assuming the Director role at the Foundation, Jay lead the aquaculture and offshore oil and gas campaigns and shared strategic responsibilities on marine fisheries and sustainable seafood campaigns. Jay’s previous environmental work includes pulp, paper and toxics issues in Canada and the USA. He spent four years working in commercial fisheries and has also worked in the U.S. Congress on foreign policy and military issues in addition to spending several years working with Greenpeace in the U.S. and Canada.

Dr. Faisal Moola, PhD
Director of Science

Faisal is a practicing scientist and has published widely in scientific journals on ecology, conservation biology, and environmental policy. He has conducted research in some of Canada’s most significant wilderness areas, such as the Boreal Forest, the old-growth rainforests of British Columbia and the Acadian woodlands of Atlantic Canada. He has also been a university lecturer. He lives in rural B.C. with his wife and their two young children.

Kenneth Eng
Director of Finance

Ken’s primary responsibilities include financial reporting, budgets, finances and accounting for the Foundation. Ken is a Certified General Accountant (CGA) and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Ken has held previous roles in private schools and the computer software industry.

Marie-Claire Seebohm
Director of Human Resources

Marie-Claire reports to all Foundation staff and leads initiatives to attract and build the talent and engagement required to achieve our mission. Her passion is to support each Foundation staff member on their path as a sustainability leader so they, in turn, can build the leadership - and the impact - of the sector in the long term. Marie-Claire is a life long social activist and environmentalist. She comes to Vancouver via the Queen Charlotte Islands, Québec’s Eastern Townships and Montréal. She has served as a people leader in a number of Vancouver values-based organizations over the past 12 years – as HR manager, HR consultant and board member. Marie-Claire is a lifelong learner with an MBA and CHRP. She is currently learning how to keep bees and is growing a yard full of food in her spare time.

Alissa Horii
Director of Development

As a member of the Development team, Alissa leads all areas of fundraising including foundations, major gifts, planned giving and direct marketing. Over the past 8 years, Alissa has worked with environmental, cultural, educational and health charities through her professional and volunteer work. Currently she sits on the board of directors of the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre, a Holocaust based anti-racism organization. Alissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of Victoria and has had a passion for nature and the environment for as long as she can remember.

Karel Mayrand
Director, DSF Quebec

Karel is the newest member of the Foundation's management team. He has a very strong background in policy development, extensive international experience working with various UN agencies, plus more recent experience as a social entrepreneur. Before joining DSF, he was the co-founder of Unisféra, a not-for-profit organization that provides knowledge-based, policy-oriented consultant services on matters of sustainable development and the environment. He is also the co-founder of Planetair, a not-for-profit program that provides carbon offsets and carbon neutral solutions to individuals and businesses (and one which the David Suzuki Foundation is partnering with ). He is well-known in the Quebec environmental community and media.
