Action: Get involved

Changing the world is a big project. We’ve told you how you can make a difference from the bottom up – by greening your personal life in the areas of transportation, food, and energy. But people in positions of power need to make top down changes as well. And they want and need to hear from you.

Does your voice really make a difference? Yes! Political leaders not only read letters from the public, they weight them. Each letter represents about 100 votes, ten thousand letters equals a million votes. If even a third of you reading this (yes, you!) wrote or emailed, it would represent 10 million votes. All from the comfort of your sofa or office cubicle!

Here’s how one letter from one Canadian changed public policy in a whole city. Now everyone who lives there is breathing easier.

If you think your efforts are too small to matter, consider the centipede – it takes a lot of little legs to propel that large creature forward. It’s the same with any change. It starts with the power of individuals working together to create a mighty force. (Ever had a mosquito in your bedroom during the night? Who’s got the power in that equation?)

Be heard. Demanding legislation to tackle global warming is as important as taking public transit or turning off a light. In a fleeting matter of moments you can help create the healthy, enduring future we all want. Here’s how.
