Schools can also do their part to help save money and reduce the emissions that pollute the air and cause global warming.

While it’s common for schools to have recycling programs, it’s also possible to incorporate a composting system in the cafeteria or lunch room. Fruit and vegetable scraps can be used to fertilize a schoolyard garden. And the garden can be used in science classes. Here’s how one middle school in Connecticut launched a composting pile:
