Background
The Ontario government has pledged to introduce a law this spring to “ban the cosmetic use of pesticides.” Lawn and garden pesticides pose needless risks to human health and the environment.

Thirty-six Ontario municipalities have already adopted bylaws to restrict the use of lawn and garden pesticides, paving the way for a province-wide ban. Where municipal bylaws are already in force, provincial legislation can add value by banning the sale as well as use of cosmetic pesticides.

Provincial Pesticide Bans Work!
Quebec is currently the only province to restrict cosmetic pesticide sales (the Ontario ban will not be in place until 2009). Statistics Canada found that the number of households using pesticides in Quebec decreased by 50% between 1994 and 2005. Nationwide, pesticide use dipped by only 2 percentage points over the same period. Click here for summary

Ontario should ban the use AND SALE of lawn and garden pesticides.
Tell Premier McGuinty that love cannot wait - the law should be in place this year!
