We took crucial steps in 2012 toward designing a low-carbon energy future for Canada. We are charting a course for an 80 per cent reduction in Canada's energy-related greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Our research and modeling has already answered a crucial question, showing that an 80 per cent emissions reduction is achievable. But that future will also be transformative, requiring a clean energy boom on a par with the rapid growth in oil and gas consumption that followed the Second World War. This year, we will complete a set of scenarios that point the way to a low-carbon energy future and identify the communities and stakeholders outside the energy sector that will play a central role in making it happen.
