Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate Institute — Mowat Mustangs

Team: Kim Carlton, Meas Danok, Holly Ertel, Ryan Johnstone

Who: The Mowat Mustangs are a team of high school students from Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate Institute in Scarborough. Known as 'The Island', the Mowat area is surrounded by rivers, streams and bridges and is near the Rouge. Mowat is a certified eco-school and has an environmental council (MECO) with more than 75 students and teachers involved.

Why: Team Mowat Mustangs is extremely concerned about the environment and feels responsible for the conservation of Rouge Park and forests. The team was inspired to join Camp Suzuki to develop their leadership skills and increase their knowledge, while showing that the Rouge is a fun and exciting place.

What: They want to find innovative and creative ways to get their school and the community involved and experience the natural wonders of the park, likely by holding a hike and reaching out to other schools in the area.
