About Team

Nature in My Backyard!

Team: Craig Verner, Myles Chang

Who: Team Nature In My BackYard! consists of volunteers from the Green Team at the YMCA of Greater Toronto. They work with a variety of community members who use YMCA services like the Newcomer Center in Toronto. With the diversity present in this network, they provide a stage for people to connect and share experience from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Why: Team Nature in My Backyard believes that the best way to foster a positive environmental attitude is to get people involved, interacting and connecting with their environment, sharing ideas about what it means to be sustainable and how biodiversity and our natural habitat play a role in our future.

What: Through a series of workshops/hikes, the team's goal is to engage people in becoming active stewards and advocates for the Rouge. Their plan is to provide opportunities for learning that encourages participants and their families to get outside and get involved. Some themes included in the events are habitat restoration, river clean-ups and invasive species, among others.
