World’s first hybrid taxi driver creates a new business model that saves money and keeps the environment green
After being in the taxi industry for 24 years, Andrew Grant knew that he could make a difference by reducing the amount of emissions he put out as a taxi driver. In one month the typical cab driver puts out roughly the same amount of emissions as the average driver does in an entire year. And so Andrew took a risk by being the first taxi driver in the world to put a hybrid car on the road in hopes that it would be both environmentally friendly and a cost-effective business model.
By thinking outside of the box, Andrew helped to influence cab companies in Vancouver and slowly in other cities across Canada. The City of Vancouver even created a mandate to ensure that all new taxis are hybrid models by 2010. By doing our small part, whether it's one car or one choice, one person can truly make a difference.
